How to Brew French Press Coffee
What you need to Brew Great French Press Coffee
You will need a french press and some Brewtus Roasting Coffee of your choice.
Pre-heat your French press, by pouring hot water into it.
A good starting point is a 15:1 water: coffee ratio or 66 – 70 grams per 1 liter of water. The dose will vary according to your taste and the coffee used. Use your digital scale to measure your coffee and then grind it immediately before use. We recommend slightly coarser than filter coffee.
Place the french press containing the ground coffee on your scale. Tare the scale, so it reads zero and pour in 1000 grams (1 liter) of boiling water. Be sure to wet all the grounds by pouring half of the water first, then stir a little, then pour in the rest of the water. Do not put the lid/plunger on top until later.
Brew time varies between 4 and 5 minutes.
When there is about a minute to go, using a spoon, gently push all the ground coffee, so it falls to the bottom of the French press and stir, making sure the grounds are stirred carefully. To achieve a cleaner tasting cup, remove the pale floating foam from the surface.
Put the plunger/lid on but do not plunge all the way down. Plung just below the surface of the coffee. Wait a minute before you pour to let the sediment settle. Pour into a glass carafe or a thermos – leaving it in the French press over time will result in unpleasant flavors.
Enjoy your amazing french press!
Ps. Don’t forget to clean the plunger, filters, and press immediately after use.
