Widely recognized for its rare and exotic taste, Geisha coffee has taken the coffee world by storm in recent years. As an Ethiopian heirloom coffee, Geisha is distinguished by its delicate yet complex flavor profile reminiscent of floral and tea notes. It's also known for its bright acidity and smooth texture, making each sip a unique and enjoyable experience.
This Geisha coffee comes from Finca La Pacaya. To cultivate coffee varieties with unique attributes, MAV Coffee purchased seeds directly from the source to ensure the desired quality. They invested significantly and traveled to various countries to obtain them. Unlike others, they first acquired the seeds and then found the ideal property, which met the requirements for the plants to reach their full potential in terms of aroma and fragrance.
In 2013, MAV Coffee acquired its first Geisha seeds in Boquete, Panama, from Francisco Serracín, who introduced this variety to Panama in 1963. It wasn't until 2003 that Serracín, along with Andrés López and Daniel Peterson, separately tasted the coffee from their farms and identified the unique qualities of the Geisha variety. They were guided by Francisco Serracín himself during this tasting, where they examined the coffee's attributes. Finca La Pacaya got its name because, while searching for a suitable place to plant the seeds, the team discovered a Pacaya crop in the Ojo de Agua-Tapantugusto canton in the Apaneca-Ilamatepeq mountain range, located in the Sonsonate department at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level. This location is ideal for the Geisha variety, as it offers the right soil, altitude, and climate. These factors combine to produce the citrus acidity found in its fragrance and aroma, along with a balanced body and acidity.
After seven years, the plantation achieved the desired results. In 2020, they participated in the El Salvador Cup of Excellence for the first time, securing 4th place.
